FOOTBALL.

The return gemo between the Christchurch and Southbridge Clubs was decided at Southbridge on Saturday, and resulted in an easy victory for the visiting team by two goals and one touch-down to nil. In fairness to the Southbridge team it may be mentioned that four of their chosen men were unable to play, and substitutes had to be found at the last moment, they also played one short through the greater portion of the game, owing to L. Lee being disabled and having to retire. The Christchurch team arrived at 130, having been driven up in Messrs Leach and Lewis’s well appointed drag and four, Mr Lewis handling the ribbons. A capital luncheon was prepared for them in the Town Hall in Mr Mitchell’s best style, which having been done justice to, the rival teams adjourned to the ground. Christchurch (Red) having won the toss, Million kicked off, the ball being taken well up to the Blue’s quarters—in fact, this was the case nearly all through tbe game, it being very evident from the start that the Southbridge team was not only greatly over-weighted, but that they did not play so well together or with the same amount of judgment as their opponents. However, they played a plucky uphill game, and if in practice they would only study the points of tho game more, prominently that of passing the bull and backing up in place of relying on the activity of one man to get away with it, they would give a far better account of themselves. The game resulted as follows :—First spell, 1 touoh-down to nil; second spell, no score; third spell, 1 goal to nil; fourth spell, 1 goal to nil ; total, 2 goals and 1 touch-down to nil. The three Willises and two Bournes played remarkably well for Southbridge, while for Christchurch, Milton, Potts, Rutherford, Alabaster, and Anderson deserve special mention, the two latter making some good runs, and Anderson being Credited with two touch down, both of which Millon neatly converted into goals. In the evening tho two teams attended an entertainment in the town hall, which, from their unbounded applause, they seemed thoroughly to enjoy.
