Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under:— SATURDAY, AUGUST 5. For Kaikonra, per Go-Ahead, at 4.20 p m. late fee letters, at 4.35 p.m. ; guard’s van. 5 25 p.m. train. For Northern Ports, per Hawea. at 7 p.m. Guard’s van must not be u»ed for this mail. TUESDAY, AU6U-T 10. For Otago and Australian Colonies, per Rotomahana. _The next mail for the United Kingdom, &0., via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch on August I4th. Mail will be due in London on September 28th. _ The next mail for the United Kingdom, &0., via Brindisi, will close at Christchurch on August 25th, at 7 a.m. Mail will be due in London on October 16th. A Post-office has hci a opened at Elgin, in the district of Ashburton, from Ist August. SYDNEY J. DICK, Chief Postmaster.
