Advices from Calcutta, under date of June 23th, state that toe ship City of Tanjore, 799 toua, had accepted a charter to load cornsacka, &0., for this port, and would sail in September. The schooner Torea. Captain Grundy, arrived vestsrday from Port Chalmers to finish loading here for Kaipira. The ship Bulwark, Captain Seaton, arrived at Melbourne July 23rd from Burrard’s Inlet, via Sydney. The brig Emperor, Captain Cleary, arrived yesterday from Newcastle, after a sixteen days’ passage, with a cargo of coal for Mr C. W. Turner. She was berthed at the Tunnel Wharf, sailing in direct from sea. A FAST PASSAGE. The New Orient Line steamship Potasi, which arrived at Melbourne a week or two ago, made the passage to Hobson’s Biy in thirty-eight days nine hours, including fifteen hours’ stay at the Capo, ton hours’ stoppage to perform some necessary repairs to machinery, and thirty hoars’ stay at Adelaide—the quickest run on record with one exception, that made by the Orient of the same lino, and which was but a few hours less. The register tonnage of the Potosi is 2704, engines 600 horse power nominal. The saloons on board are fitted with electric lights, five in each, which are. said to give a light equal to that of broad daylight.J SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland, August 5.
