PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
[By Telegraph.]
[peom due own cobebspondent.] WELLINGTON, August 3,
Tho House sat till a quarter past three this morning, the Native members and a few others blocking the Native Land Bill. Tho scene was an extremely dreary one. There was only a bare quorum present, and but two Ministers on the Bench, one of whom slept olooidly with his Ministerial cloak around him, and most of the members were reclining and yawning. It is likely to be another late sitting to-night, and tho Premier proposes sitting at 11 o’clock to-morrow. By the end of the session only skeletons will be left on tho seats.
There is groat talk over your representative last night getting Dr. Skae’s report on tho Lunatic Asylums, when even Ministers had not a copy. Even the “Times” here could not get anything of it to-day. Mr Andrews, who was very indignant at it, gave notice of motion for to-morrow, “ That a Select Committee be appointed to enquire into the circumstances under which Dr. Skae’s report on tho Lunatic Asylums was obtained by the person who acts as correspondent for the Christchurch Pbbss and other journals, with power to call for persons and papers, such Committee to consist of the Honorable Mr Dick, Messrs Saunders, Barron, Murray, and the mover ; to report in eight days.” The Local Industries, Printing, and Native Commission (No. 3) Reports are not yet printed, but are expected shortly.
