MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under: — WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4. For Otago and Australian Colonies (to connect with a.s. Tararua at the Bluff), at 7a m. late fee letters can be posted in the travelling post-office van, attached to the express train. THURSDAY, AUGUST 5. For Northern Porta and Australian Colonies, per Albion, at 1.50 p.m.; late fee letters, 2.10 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. For Otago, per Wanaka, at 11.25 a.m. ; late fee letters, at 11.35 a.m.; guard’s van, 12.10 p.m. train. The next mail for the United Kingdom, &0., via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch on August 14th. Mail will be due in London on September 28th. The next mail for the United Kingdom, Ac., via Brindisi, will close at Christchurch on August 25th, at 7 a.m. Mail will be due in Loudon on October 16th. A Post-office will be opened at Elgin, in the district of Ashburton, from Ist August. SYDNEY J. DICK, Chief Postmaster.
