CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board held its ordinary meeting in the staff room of the Hospital at; four o'clock yesterday afternoon. There were present—Mr Thomson {chairman), and the Mayor of Sydenham. The Hospital Committee reported that during the paet fortnight 8 patients had been admitted and 18 discharged, leaving 49 patients remaining in the Hospital. During the same period three deaths have occurred. A patient names James Garrett died on the 30th April, 1880, leaving the sum of £lB 83 2d, which be desired should be disposed of as follows :—£s to Henry Davis, attendant, and the balance, after paying for maintenance and funeral expenses, to be handed over to the Hospital. Instructions have been given to the house surgeon and dispenser to prepare a list of drugs that may ba required for the next twelve months, with a view of transmitting the order by tho next mail to England. The report was adopted. The secretary laid on the table printed copies of a statement showing the receipts and expenditure of the charitable institutions under the control of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. It was resolved to send copies oE_ the statement to the various local governing bodies, and the seoretary, Mr March, was instructed accordingly. Mr March, in stating the cause of his absence at last Board meeting, having been called away on Government business to Albury, made an explanation in reference to a question that arose on that occasion, as to the admission into the Ashburton Home of a man named Bligh. The Chairman expressed himself completely satisfied with the explanation. The Ashburton Home committee acknowledged with thanks the receipt of a parcel of woollen comforters, &0., from Mrs Parkerson, for the inmates of the home. An application was received from the parsonage at Eaikoura for a boy from the Orphanage. The Rev. Mr Gould also applied for a boy from the Orphanage, on behalf of Mr White, a farmer at Baloairn. The applications were favourably considered. A discussion took place in reference to reporting fever coses in the Hospital. The Chairman said it was deemed advisable to delay foe record of admission until after the diagnjeis of the oase had been made by the honorary medical officer. In reply to Mr Brown, The Chairman said that the committee had Investigated the cases of alleged incorrect reporting, and were satisfied with the explanation obtained. . Subsequently the following report was presented : The oommittee appointed by the Board to enquire into the accuracy of the certificate of death given in the case of Mary Keetly and George Kirkhouse, report a 9 follows: —The evidence of the hon. medical officer attending the above cases, as well as the evidence of the house surgeon, sustain the accuracy of the certificates given. As the Board has already admitted an omission in the reporting of fever cases, and has given instructions whereby such omissions will he obviated in future, and as no evil results have been shown to have arisen in consequence of such irregularity, the committee recommend the Board not to continue the enquiry further. The report was adopted, and the secretary Teceived instructions to forward the same in a letter to the chairman of the Board of Health. After some discussion as to the best course to be adopted in admitting patients to the Hospital, with a view to establish some definite rule, It ? was resolved—" That the House Surgeon be informed that in future the column in the admittance book under the head 'disease' be not filled up until the case has been diagnosed by the honorary medical officer." It was also resolved, " That a letter be written to the ohairmon of the hospital staff lequesting that in future all cases of deaths occurring in the iustitution be certified to by the honorary medical officer attending the oase."

The returns from the hospital cottage at Akaroa showed that from June 6th to July *9th eight Fpatients were in the institution, iive being discharged during that period, and from July 12th to the 26th of the same month there were three admitted and two discharged, leaving four patients remaining in -the cottage. Some matters of ah executive oharaoter were referred to the secretary to deal with. The Board then adjourned.
