OSBISTGEUBCE. Wednesday, Judy 28. [Before G. L. Bee, Esq., J.P.I Dstwk and Uiboedsedy. —Paany Alice Farkes was fined 10s ; and a first offender ss. Souoxtins Amis.—Adolphus Groor, a strapping young man, was brought up charged with this offence. Detective Keill said accused was notorious for going about the country begging systematically. He had done twelve months’ imprisonment at Timaru in 1879, and six months previously for the same offence. Accused said he was just out of gaol, and had no means of subsistence. The Bench said apparently prisoner wished to spand his life in gaol. He was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, Judy 28. [Before Joseph Beswick, Esq., R.M.] Lunacy. Prank Thor, charged with lunacy on remand, was committed to Sunnyside. Railway Trespass. —William Cook was charged with trespassing on the railway with a horse and cart. Mr Joyce appeared for the defendant. The defendant said he had been, as others, in the habit of going across the rails to the reclamation between the boat jetties and the Gladstone pier. He had never been stopped, and was unaware ha was committing trespass. T. Richards, platelayer, said he had cautioned the defendant about two weeks before, when he had crossed the yard to go to the Tunnel wharf. The Bench dismissed the case, giving the caution that carters must go to the wharves at the authorised crossings, any breach of which in future would incur a heavy penalty. Civil Cases. —Haydon v Conway, claim £1; judgment by default and costs. Borough Council v H. Armitage, claim £3 4s for rates ; Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the Council; judgment by default. Same vR. M. Morton, claim £6 10s; judgment by default with costs and counsel fee. Same v Robert Thompson, claim £1 6s 8d ; judgment by default. TJnion Steamship Company v G. Hast, claim £6 10s j judgment by default and costs.
