PUBLIC MEETING AT RANGIORA.

A public meeting was held in the Hall of the Literary Institute on Wednesday evening last. There was a large attendance, and the chair was occupied by the Mayor (Mr H. Blackett.) Mr C. G. Ghamnaa explained that the meeting had beam called in order that the public feeling might be tested as to the desirability of floating an Investment and Building Society in Rangiora, Amberley, and Northern districts. He stated that Mr J. L. Wilson, of Kaiapoi, had kindly consented to explain the working and details of such mutual benefit societies. Mr Wilson, who was listened to with much attention, treated the “ terminaolo and permanent systems ” exhaustively, and afterwards answered questions put to him by those present. The chairman having spoken on the subject, Mr Busch moved, Mr 0. J. Chapman seconded—“ That in tho opinion of this meeting, it is desirable to establish a Building Society in Rangiora, if sufficient shares are guaranteed to warrant working of same.” Mr A. Ivory proposed, Mr Busoh seconded—- “ That this society be called the Rangiora Investment, Loan, Land and Building Society Permanent, value of shares to bo £SO each. ” It was then suggested that a canvassing committee be formed, and upon sufficient inducement being offered, the secretary (Mr O. G. Chapman) to call another meeting, when rules would be adopted, officers appointed, and the whole thing set in working trim The following gentlemen were then appointed to act on the committee —Messrs H. Blaoke't, J. Johnston, A. Ivory, W. Best, P. Grath, W. A. Burt, A. Parsons, E. R. Good, 0. G. Chapman, and B. Ellis. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Wilson for the trouble he had t*ken in attending the meeting, and for his address, and a similar vote to the chairman concluded the proceedings.
