The barque Samarkand, Captain _ Lament, arrived off tho Heads on Monday night, and came to an anchorage yesterday, after an excellent passage of eight days f torn . Strong westerly winds were carried to the Nuggets, sighted last Sunday, and light winds experienced since. The vessel Is in ballast, under charter to load for home for Messrs Boyse, Stead and Co. A further survey of the barque Annabella was ordered yesterday by the Collector of Customs "to be held this afternoon. The surveyors are Captain Wilkinson, of tho Geraldine Paget; Captain Carpenter, of the Canoma; and Mr John Grubb, master shipwright. The schooner Awaroa, Captain Gresgor, arrived from Wanganui yesterday, having left there last Friday. The Awaroa, then at Wanganui, was about ready to leave for this port. It was reported yesterday that the chief officsr of Messrs "'haw, Bavill and Co.’s ship Meropo, now at Wellington, had received the appointment of mast-r of the Hudson, .to succeed the la"o Captain Paterson.
