The schooner Clio was discharging timber at the dock wharf yesterday. THE HELEN DENNY. After an excellent passage of eighty-two days from London, this well-known barque put in an appearance at the Heads yesterday, and during the evening beat up the harbor to an anchorage. She is commanded by Captain Euth, here some years since with Captain Peters as chief officer, but who has made periodical voyages since as master to Port Chalmers and to Napier. The vessel has arrived in admirable order, and brings altogether twenty passengers, besides a full general cargo. The voyage is reported to have been an exceedingly pleasant one throughout, the whole of the passengers enjoying a com. plete Immunity from all serious sickness, and a remarkably large share of fine weather being experienced. The details of the voyage are given by Captain Eutb as follows : —Left London April 28th, Gravesend same day, and the Downs next morning; had a fine fresh easterly wind down Channel, and left the Lizard on the 30th at 8 p.m.; crossing the Bay of Biscay, had line fair winds to the N.E. trades on May 4th, in 39 N-, and carried them to 14 miles north of the Equator on May 20fch in 28 W.» and crossed the Equator the same day ; got good S.E. trades from there, and kept with them to 24 S. in 37 W. on May 29th ; thence, to crossing the meridian of Greenwich on June 12th, had fine weather and fair winds, and to the meridian of the Cape on June 17th in 40 S.; off the Cape, fell in with fresh westerly winds, and ran down the easting in 43 S., experiencing chiefly S. and S.W. winds. Crossed the meridian of the Lewin on July sth, in 41.19 S., with W.N.W. winds and fine weather. On Sunday, July 11th, was off Tasmania, with a strong gale from N.jtf.W., weather thick, and ran before it into the parallel of the Snares. Sighted Stewart’s Island on Thursday la>t, the weather falling calm, and since had a light northerly wind for fourteen or fifteen hours, followed by strong southerly winds to off Timarn on Saturday. Conld just see the Peninsula that night, since which light baffling winds were met with. During the passage the only very heavy weather encountered was on July 9th, when the ship was hove-to for several hours in a S.W. gale. Two seas broke aboard amidships, and completely filled the decks, floating everything movable about them, and breaking over the poop. On Sunday night saw a most beautiful meteor when off the Peninsula. Captain Knth says it was more brilliant than any he remembers having seen, the sea apparently for miles around being lighted up by it, as was also the ship herself m every part, as though by the electric light. The only vessel spoken during the passage was the American barque F. E. Altheuae, bound from Liverpool to Batavia, twenty-three days out. The Helen Denny will probably come mto a berth to-day. Her agents are Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co. SHIPPING TELEGEAMS. Wellington. July 19. Arrived —Aurora, schooner, from Kaiparn.
