INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
The interest taken by the public in the exhibition continues unabated, as may be gathered from the fact that 4000 people visited it yesterday. Since Saturday several exhibits have been added. Mr Hall has two very pretty models of single furrow ploughs, Mrs Clarke, a lady of eighty years, a large crochet quilt, and Messrs, Strong and Co., of Invercargill, a fine assortment of spices, coffees, &c. Mr Jenkins, of the City Steam Saw Mills, has added considerably to his trophy of machine-made woodwork. Amongst other things he has irregular mouldings, wave mouldings on a circle and on a straight line. He also exhibits a carved lion’s head and a beautifully carved spandrill, representing the rose, shamrock, and thistle, the work in which is admirably executed, and one on the corresponding end of an oak branch with acorns. Opposite Mr Jenkins’ trophy is a very fine model of H.M.B. Warrior, exhibited by Mr J. King. Mr Hyde has a Brobdignagian boot, thirty inches long, and, in comparison, a child’s boot of ordinary size. Mr W. S. King has an addition to his furniture exhibit, in the shape of a capitally-made S shaped ottoman in leather. A meeting of the committee was held during the evening, at which a telegram was read from the Premier, stating that the Government had appointed the Hon. H. B. Gresaon, His Worship the Mayor, Captain Colbeck, Messrs E. Wakefield, Inglis and P. Cunningham as a Commission to report on the Exhibition. The Wellington members were to leave per Tararua yesterday. The following gentlemen wore appointed as a sub-committee to meet the commission, viz,, Professor Bickerton, Messrs R. Allan, Charters, Coleman, E. Jenkins, and A. G Howland. During the evening the electric light was exhibited from the end of the shed outside, and whilst the moon was obscured by clouds was very good. The Railway Baud played during the evening a very nice selection of pieces. To-night they will play the following programme: Quick march, ‘Woodland,” E. Newton; selection, “Souvenir de Valance,” M. Bledger; valse, “Kildare,” M. Seaman ; solo polka, “La Bello France,” Millescamps; quick step, “To Arms,” E. Newton ; quadrille, “ La Serpent du Desert,” M. Bledger; sohottisohe, “ Dawn of Day," B.
