The matter wbb deferred for the present. From Miss B. Cooper, pupil teacher, asking to be relieved of her engagement, in consequence of her parents removing to Timaru. The Board agreed to recommond her to the South Canterbury Board for an appointment at Timaru, failing whioh hor resignation to be accepted. From the Southbridge School Committee on receiving from the Board, for their remarks, a petition from inhabitants of tbat district, which prayed for the retention of Mr Elwin as jchoolmaster. The Board considered that Mr Elwin, by his own intemperate language, had brought about the present unsatisfactory state of affairs, and declined to alter their former deoision. , From the same committee, reporting the aohool to be becoming disorganised, and asking for the temporary appointment of a proper qualified teaoher to take charge during Mr Elwin's absence on leave. From Mr Elwin, asking an extension of his leave of absence on the ground of bad health. The secretary was instructed to reply that the Board had not authorised the exchange, and disapproved of the independent action taken by the committee. As, however, Mrs Bowley was actually installed as infant mistress in the school, the Board would confirm the appointment, if, after further trial, she was found suitable for the position. The case was not to be taken as a precedent in any future transaction of the kind. Mrs Ostford, mistress of Lyttelton school, wrote, asking, as she had now qualified, for the full salary according to soale. The request was ordered to be complied with. A. C. Blake, holding certificate from the Dunodin High School, was appointed pupil teacher at Colombo road school.
