[PBEBS ASSOCIATION. ( DUNEDIN, July 15. Heavy on the Corporation. In the case of Alves v. the Corporation of Dunedin, the Court have awarded the plaintiff £2600 and costs. The coats amount to nearly £4OOO. The Corporation offered £I2OO before the case came on. GEAHAMSTOWN, July 15. The Removal of Mr Kenrick. A meeting was called last night by circular, and largely and influentially attended, to consider what steps should be taken to petition against the removal of the Resident Magistrate, a matter now before the House. The following resolutions were carried unanimously ; —(I) “That this meeting has entire confidence in Mr Kenrick as Resident Magistrate for this district, and desires to testify to the strict impartiality which has distinguised his judicial proceedings, and that this meeting endorse the opinion expressed at the meeting of Justices previously held.” (2) “ That it is the opinion of this preliminary meeting that an opportunity should be given to the whole of the Thames male adult population to express their entire confidence in the honorable and equitable justice manifested in the decisions given by Henry Kenrick, Esq., j their present Magistrate ; further, that tins opportunity should be given by calling a public meeting on the same at an early date, and that any resolutions passed to that effect at such meeting be forwarded to the Minister of Justice, to Parliament, and to the worthy Magistrate himself.” A public meeting will be held to-morrow. The body of John Whelan was recovered shortly before 5 o’clock this morning and buried with the two others, DenU, his brother, and Phillip Cummins. The “Post’s” Hawera correspondent telegraphs as follows :—“ The Maoris are much dissatisfied at the way they have been inconvenienced at the Land Court at Patea by the non-arrival of the Judge. The surveys on the plains are progressing rapidly. Many Maoris are going to Parihaka; they say to plant and stay there. A dozen bullock drivers passed through here last week.
