CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, July 14, [Before G. L. Lee, Esq , J.P.; and G. Hart, Esq., J.P.] Dbunkennnbs. —Joseph Jameson was fined 10s for drunkenness. Issuing a Valueless Cheque.—James Braddy was charged with obtaining the sum of £2 from Patrick Burke, of the Victoria Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque. Accused pleaded “ Guilty,” and pleaded that he had been drinking hard. It appeared he was quite sober when he presented the cheque, which was on the Bank of New South Wales. Tho Court said drunkenness was no excuse, and sentenced accused to a month’s imprisonment with hard labor. Disobdkblt Conduct. —Henry Webb was charged with having been drunk and disorderly, and also with the wilful destruction of property, valued at 15s, belonging to William Vincent. Accused, who was very violent when arrested, and broke the window of the cab in which he was conveyed to the station, ■was fined 10s, and ordered to pay 15s for damage done. Mary Bannister, charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct, was not sufficiently recovered to be dealt with, and was remanded until the following day. Alleged Embezzlement by a Oommbbcial Tbayellbb. Joseph Herdman Andrews was charged with the embezzlement of £9 10s, the property of his late employer, Francis Innis, of the Victoria Brewery, Waltham. Mr Joyce appeared for the defence. After hearing the whole of tho evidence for the prosecution, and a portion of that for the defence, the Court refused to proceed further with the hearing as unnecessary. _ There was nothing accused could be convicted upon, and he would be discharged without a stain on his character.
