CHRIST’S COLLEGE V. 0.F.0. The return match between the above clubs was played on Saturday, on tho College ground, according to the Rugby Union rules, and resulted, after a well contested game, in favor of the senior olub by one touchdown to nothing. The following were the teams: — College—W. J. Cotterill (captain), fullback ; A. 8. Chapman, J. C. N. Grigg, halfbacks ; G. Helmore, H. H. Lee, quarterbacks ; J. Newell, W. Mellish, R. Million, R. Dixon, F. A. Tiffen, E. T. Rhodes, H. H. Mathias, W. SUidholme, W. Webb, L. Tripp, forwards. 0.F.0. —E. J. Cotterill, full-back; P. Morgan, J. Boys, half-backs; A. Anderson, A. Alabaster, quarter-backs ; W. Million (captain), O. Bolton, M. Lowin, R. Harman, J. Field, W. Potts, J. Lawson, G. Booth, L. Ollivier, O. Evans, forwards. W. Million won the toss and chose tho west goal, and after having decided to play four spells of 25 minutes each, Grigg kicked off for the College at five minutes past three, with a good kick. Neither side gained any material advantage in the first two spells, but the Boys showed their opponents that they had their work cut out if they meant to win. For the College, Grigg and Helmore, backs, made some splendid runs, and Rhodes and Newell, forward, did good service, while for the 0.F.0., Million, Bolton, Harman, Potts, did splendid work forward. In the third spell the College were penned up to the east goal, but the smartness of their backs averted the danger. Anderson tried hard to get in, but was always stopped before he was able to roach the line. Grigg made a long and serviceable run for the College. In the fourth spell the College kept the ball up to their opponents’ twenty-five line till the last seven minutes. The club, aided by a good run by Lewin, rushed the ball down, and from a scrimmage near the College goal line Bolton secured a try, which was a failure. The club forwards played well together, and made full use of their weight in the loose scrimmages, especially Bolton, Field, Million, Harman, Potts, White ; Anderson, played well as quarter-back. The College forwards, although they were playing against men greatly superior in weight, played splendidly together, and contested every inch of the ground. Special mention ought to be made of Newell, Mathias, Mellish, Rhodes, and Dixon. Helmore and Grigg did very good service for their side, while the other backs, though they had little to do, did it well. The College team are to be complimented on their smartness. After three hearty cheers for each side they dispersed. The umpires, Messrs W. Reeves for the College, and L. Hawkes (club), had very little to do except to run about. Tho match played on Oranmer square on Saturday last was East v West of Colombo street. There was a good roll up, principally Eastern lub members, being about fifteen aside, and resulted in a win for the West by three tries to one.
