Betting—ll to 8 on the La Belle Helene filly, 5 to I agst the Fright colt, 8 to 1 agst Lady Chelmsford, 10 to 1 agst Heydey, and 20 to 1 agst any other. After five or six failures, in which the favorite was somewhat restive, Nelly Blair got off in front of the La Belle Helene filly and King of Scotland, who were separated by Lady Chelmsford and St. Laurent from the Fright colt and Heydey, with John o’ Groat bringing up the rear. At the end of the first quarter of a mile Nelly Blair dropped away, and the La Belle Helene filly came on with a., slight lead of Lady Chelmsford until just below the distance. The Fright colt then took second place, but failed to overhaul the favorite, who won by two lengths from Heydey, the latter struggling on with great gameness, and beating the Fright colt by a head for second place. Lady Chelmsford was a bad fourth, King of Scotland fifth, John o’" Groat next, and Nelly Biair last. The winner was bought in for 1030 gs.
