LYTTELTON. Wednesday, July 7. [Before Joseph Beswick, Esq., E.M.] Eailway Travelling. —Mary Ann Cook ras charged with riding from Christchurch o Lyttelton by the 5.25 p.m. train on Tueslay without a ticket. Fined 20s, or fortyight hours. Larceny.—-The charges against tho boy Iradley were farther adjourned until Friday lext; also, a charge of receiving stolen prolerty preferred against Kate Bradley. A Neglectful Parent. John Isaac Newton was brought up to show why he hould not contribute to tho support of his hild in the Industrial School. The delinquent vas put in the box, and swore he was unable o contribute, having earned but five shillings or the past week or two. The Bench let the lefendant £now that he must contribute lometbiug within the next month, to which ime the case would be adjourned. Civil Oases. —Forbes v Crawford, claim S 4 12s, for rent of office; judgment by default. Molnnis v Higgs, claim £3, damage lone to garden by defendant’s cattle; Mr 3’Neil for the plaintiff. Evidence was called jy the defendant to show that but slight lamage had been done, a witness named lenkina stating that 6i would fully cover it. lodgment was given for 10s and costs. As ;o counsel’s foes, the Bench said in future it would be a rule of the Court not to allow solicitors’ fees when the sum sued for is under £5. Jones v Henry, claim £42 3s 9d, for commission on a ship’s charter ; Mr Naldor for plaintiff, Mr O’Neil for defendant. [Left sitting.]
