Captain Sutherland, of the Meropa, writing to a friend at port, says of his homeward voyage from here —“ We had a good run of 77 days to the Channel, but after making the land fell in with not much bat light easterly winds and calms.” The ship arrived on the 15th March, and the third day after was in the dry desk to be cleaned, the whole of her cargo having been discharged. She was at once put on the berth for Wellington, for which port she sailed from Gravesend on April 19th, and had to beat down the Channel, passing Start Point on April 25th. It was uncertain whether the ship would come on to Lyttelton from Wellington to load, or go to Melbourne. ~ _ ... The Edith Eeid gees alongside the Geraldine Paget to day, to take in a cargo of cement on account of C. W. Turner ; and the Eichard and Mary will load with cement for Timaru from the JEfcbelred. POET OF SUMNER. Abetted—July 4. r Tongariro, p.s., 38 tons,'Ashman, with a cargo of firewood from Leßon’s Bay. The Volunteer got off on Sunday night with the loss of her false keel. She was making a little water.

She left Melbourne at 1 p.m. of the 29th, and arrived at Aobart Town on the Ist, at 2 p.m., and left 5.30 p.m. She experienced strong head winds and a dieayy sea to arrival. Saloon passengers—For the Bluff: Messrs Cooke, Winter, Bam, Dr. and Mrs Robertson. One steerage, and 33 tons ■of cargo. For Dunedin : Messrs Fuller, Dewes, Mrs Gibb. Twelve steerage, aud 91 tons of cargo. For Lyttelton: Messrs Sharpe and Woodgate, Mr and Mrs Harper. Thirteen steerage, aud 40 tons of cargo. For Wellington : Messrs McDonald, Granger. McCrea, Pratt, Mr and Mrs Holcroft and family. Four steerage, and 44 tons of cargo. For Napier: Mr Reynolds and 14 tons of cargo. For Auckland : Mr Metcalfe. One steerage, and 68 tons of cargo. Tie Napieb, July 5. Arrived Columbia, schooner ; Kate McGregor, schooner; and Reliance, ketch, all from Auckland ; Venus, ketch, from Mercury Bay. Sailed—Arawata, for Northern norts, _ The Rotomahana has been detained until tomorrow. Port Chalmers, July 5. Sailed—Wave, brig, for Lyttelton; Hawea, 8.8., for Manakau via intermediate ports. Passengers—For Wellington, Messrs. Gibbs, James, Harris ; for Westport, Mr Regretti; for Hokitika, Mrs McGrath, and five steerage for all ports.
