THE NEW R.M. COURT.
The new President Magistrate's Court was occupied for the first time this morning, Mr Whitefoord presiding. A description taken from the plana has already been published in our oolumns, and it will be therefore, unnecessary for us to go into details of measurements or particulars of design. The structure is of a substantial appearance and nature, and contains, in addition to the Court, the Magistrate's room, registrar's room, counsel's room, clerk's room, and bailiff's room, additions having yet to be made for the accommodation of prisoners and witnesses in waiting. The Court is spacious, special'y lofty, and possesses the great desideratum of good acoustic qualities. It is even palatial in its interior aspect by reason of the elaborate colouring of ceiling and walls, and the highly polished fittings of New Zealand woods. The Bench extends nearly the whole width of the Court, and would afford elbow room for a score of judges. Oar " learned friends " have a prodigious table, and the representatives of the Press are also to luxuriate at a separate table. The only class whose comfort has not been specially studied is the'great unwashed or Court habitues, who have a gallery for their accommodation, from which no view can be obtained except from the front row.
