LICENSING COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, June 29. [Before O. Whitofoord, Esq., Chief Commissioner, J. L, Lee, Esq., and R. J. S. Harman, Esq., Commissioners.] The adjourned sitting of the Licensing Commissioners was held yesterday afternoon. Renewals of licenses were granted to J. W. Morton, Morton’s Hotel j and J. O. Sheppard, White Hart Hotel.
Mr Thomas, on behalf of Michael Yaughan, af the Yalley Hotel, applied for an extension of time to effect a transfer. He explained that at the last meeting of the Court the commissioners hod thought fit to grant Yaughan a renewal, and gave him a month to dispose of his business to someone else. He had not had sufficient time to find anyone to take it oyer, and the owner of the freehold on which the hotel stood, who was formerly the licensee, wanted to take it over on unreasonable terms, because he thought Yaughan was in a corner and compelled to sell out. The Bench explained that they did not wish to be unnecessarily harsh and granted petitioner another month to find a purchaser. This constituted the full business.
