An Italian organ grinder recently proceeded to Albury (N.8.W.) with organ and monkey, for the purpose of crossing into Victoria. The Custom House authorities on the Border stopped him and demanded £6 10s for duty. A Vionna painter having reoently inserted in an historical picture the head of vn eld man, which was greatly admired, the police applied to him for the address of his model, and thus arrested a notorious criminal of 1867, who had been forbidden to reßide in Vienna. Thirty-six years ago Australia and Tasmania formed only'a district of the Anglican diocese of Calcutta. Now they form thirteen dioceses, of which Dr. Barker is metropolitan. Dr. Barker was ordained in 1831, and succeeded Dr. Broughton, the first Bishop of Australia, in 1854.
