Defeat of the Reform BillIn the Legislative Assembly last night, Mr Service’s Reform Bill was rejected on a motion by 43 to 41 votes. The debate was concluded by speeches from Messrs Service and Berry. The former said he refused to sacrifice the clause providing for a joint sitting of both Houses. Mr Berry briefly replied. Messrs Williams, Wrixon, Sergeant, and Gaunson, and Sir Jno. O’Shannessy, who were, at the time of the last general election, looked npon as supporters of the Service Ministry, voted against the Bill. At the conclusion of the debate, Mr Service moved an adjournment of tbe House. It is expected the Parliament will be dissolved in consequence of the defeat of the Ministry. Mr Williams gave notice of motion in the Assembly yesterday condemning tbe Government for threatening a dissolution while the discussion on the Bill was taking place. It is not known, however, .whether the motion will be persisted in. Previous to the division taking place, the Corner party endeavored to effect a compromise, but were unsuccessful. The House was thronged last night, and there was much excitement at he result of the division.
