WA.NGANUI STEEPLECHASES. Tpeh pbkss association speoiai, wieb.J WANGANUI, Juno 19. The Wanganui Steeplechase meeting was favored withfine weather, and about 1000 persons were present. The victory of King Don, a Wanganui horse, was a great boil over, Fourteen weighed out for the Wanganui Steeplechase Handicap of 175 sovs; second horse to receive 25 sovs from the stake; third horse to save his stake; three miles. King Ton, lOst 131 b ... 1 Ada, list 2 Old Ireland, 12st 3 Grey Momns, Loch Lomond, Venture, Ottawa, AbolitioD, Matau, Hard Times, Eclipse, Sunbeam, Tuppuka, and The General, also started. The winner jumped cleverly and won by six long hs. Grey Momus and Loch Lomond baulked at the first Btone wall. Venture and Abolition fell heavily at the doublo fence in front of the stand. Maiden Steeplechase, of 75 sovs ; three miles. Eclipse 1 Abolition 2 Kangaroo 3 General, Silver Clond, Sunbeam, Hamlet, Sunray, and Black Prince, also ran. Thero was a series of mishaps in this event, two horses alone making no mistake. Abolition broke down hardly a quartor of mile from home. Eclipse ran gamely, and was well ridden by Munn. Kangaroo waß dangerous until ho fell opposite the Grand Stand. Gkand Stand Steeplechase of 50 sovs; three miles. Grey Momu3 1 Hard Times 2 Matau 3 Venture, King Don, Kangaroo, and Old Ire- : land also started.

King Don fell at the first jump, and Venture held a strong lead, but fell at the second wall. Grey Momua then took the lead, but baulked at the fence half a mile from home. Matau joined issue with Hard Times, and after a desperate struggle Grey Momns was landed a winner by a short head. Consolation Handicap op 30 sovs; 1 i miles. Loch Lomond 1 Venture 2 Matau ... ... ... ... ... ... 3 Ottawa, Hard Times, Black Prince, and Sunbeam also started. There was an exciting race up the straight between Loch Lomond andVenturo, the former winning by a head.
