[>BB PBESS ASSOCIATION SPECIAL WISE. AUCKLAND, June 20. The Southern Cross from Levuka brings news to June 12th. The Colonial Company of Sydney is erecting a sugar manufacturing plant at tho coat of £IOO,OOO. They guarantee to commence by June, 1882, paying the planters 10s per ton for the cane.
The Governor has commuted the sentence of death in the case of Simpson tried by the High Commission Court at Potumah for the murder of Kanmile in December last. _ He has been sentenced to twenty years' imprisonment.
A few good specimens of auriferous quartz have been discovered in Viti Lovu, and a Government prospeoting party has gone out. The discovery was made by a New Zealand miner.
Bishop Selwyn arrived at Levuka on June Ist in the Meg Merrilies, and goes on to Sydney.
