She was built at Auckland in 1873. As to her fntnre trade it is stated that she will chiefly be engaged between Bluff and Stewart Island, taking up the ► ealing excursions during the season. She is announced to sail for Bluff after discharging of her present cargo. The Sydney “Daily Telegraph” reports the arrival of Mr C. W. Turner’s brigantine Circe, from this port on June 6th, after a most tempestuous passage. The Circe left here on May Ist, and was thus thirty-five days on the passage up, a delay which is fully accounted for _ by the following report of the succession of disasters she experienced : “Had moderate northeasterly winds until the sth, on which date was off the Kaiksnras, the wind still from the northeast with a very heavy cross sea; took in all light sails, and at 7.30 a.m. foretopmast and top gallant back stays carriel away, when the foretopmast and head of main topi all a lit in list fell over the side, also tearing the main staysail to pieces, but fortunately Captain Alexander succeeded in saving the yards and sails. At 2 p.m the wind veered to the southward, and all possible sail was made, and Cook’s Straits were run through with a fresh south-east wind, and a final departure was taken from Cape Farewell at noon on the 7th May. The main topmast was sent down and fitted up as a topgallantmast, and the vessel proceeded on her passage, with winds prevailing from the westward, until the 28 th May, when she experienced a strong gale with heavy sea, the vessel rolling and laboring very much, jvhen the jury foretopmast carried away. The damage was repaired as well as possible, and and the land was sighted near Newcastle on the morning of the 2nd instant, and since then has had to beat down the coast against south-west winds.” SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
