FIRE BRIGADE PRACTICE.

All the companies of the Brigade were last night summoned to practice by electric alarm from the superintendent's house. The " Deluge " and Hook and Ladder company were ordered to the South belt at the end of Madras street; the " Extinguisher " and " Dreadnought " to Lower High street. The " Dreadnought " was tho first to arrive at its destination, have its hose laid, and water through under 4£ minutes. The " Deuge" company had steam up and water through in 7$ minutes ; the "Extinguisher " one minute longer. This company failed to get sufficient water from the Madras street drain, they therefore limbered up and removed to Messrs Wilson and SawtelTs tank, re-laying and having water through the second time under 20 minutes from the first alarm. Through an ancident to one of the wheels, the Hook and Ladder company were unable to compete. After returning from practice, the members were congratulated on the good time made. After the drill a committee meeting was held. The superintendent reported a donation of £5 from Mr Thomas Pye for the prompt attention given by the Brigade at the time of his fire; also the receipt from Mr J. Ballantyne of six handsome engravings, and that the order for the fireworks for next show day had been sent to Messrs Brook and Sons, London. After passing a vote of thanks to Mr Ballantyne, the meeting adjourned.
