KAIAPOI BOROUGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting was held on Monday evening. Present —Messrs Bevell (chairman), Pashby, Pamham, Porter, and Coup. Letters were read from Miss Kauffman, assistant mistress, applying for increase of salary, as there wes a larger attendance in the infants’ division than when she first took charge. From Mr G. Edwards, complaining that the head mistress gave his daughter more home work than she could do, and was kept in because the work was not done. From the head master, applying for several requisites ; also, asking whether the committee intended to consent to a re-arrangement of the classes, to allow boys and girls to be taught together in the higher standards, also forwarding returns showing the attendance to be 462, average 262.7, a slight decrease. It was decided to invite tenders for scavenging for the school. Accounts, £l6 Is fid, ware passed. It was decided that the Board be applied to place a gateway into the girls’ nlayground. It was decided to forward Miss Kauffman’s letter to the Board, with the committee’s favorable recommendation for the increase. A copy of Mr Edwards’ letter was ordered to be sent to Miss Meakes for her explanation. A discussion took place on the question of reorganising the school, Mr Parnham moving that the recommendations of the head master be carried out. Mr Coup moved, Mr Porter seconded —“ That the head master be informed that the committee cannot see their way to reorganise the school, as suggested by him in his letter of April 9th.” Carried, Mr Pamham dissenting. The meeting then adjourned.
