FOOTBALL.

CHRIST'S COLLEGE v. 0.F.0. This game, which resulted in a draw, was played on Saturday on the College ground, and under the College rules. Ootterill (the College captain) won the toss, and chose the east goal, and Million (the 0.F.0. captain) kicked off at 3 p.m., but the ball was quickly rushed back by the College forwards. Brown then did a neat piece of dribbling, but Lee stopped him and returned the ball with a good kick. The Reds playing well together placed the College goal in danger, and Ataok secured a mark well away from the goal but failed. The ball was rushed down towards the Reds’ goal, when Sheath, with a splendid kick, returned it into the middle of the ground, whore it remained for some time, until Lee secured a mark, and by a very good kick sent the ball within half a yard of the Reds’ goal line, from which it was well returned by Williams, and the Reds following up quickly, kicked the ball over the College touch line, but the ball was taken back to the Beds’ goal by soma nice dribbling on the part of W. Ootterill and Chapman, but the Reds rushed it to the middle of the ground, where it remained until half time was called, Grigg now kicked off for the College, who were put on their mettle, and worked the ball down to the Reds’ line, where Hellish secured a touch. The try, however, was unsuccessful. Soon after this, Sheath, by a fine run, brought the ball to the College twenty-five line ; hut Mathias, by an excellent piece of dribbling, saon returned it. After some very even play Lawson succeeded in scoring a touch down for the Reds. Milton took the try, but was unsuccessful. After this the Reds kept the ball close in the College quarter, but failed to secure any other advantage before the teams separated with the usual cheers. The College seemed hardly up to their usual form, but Mathias and Grigg did them some good service as forwards. On the side of the Reds, Ootterill as quarter back played well, and all the forwards kept well together throughout the game. The following are the teams : C.F.O.—W. H. Ataok, A. 8. Baker, H. J. Beswick, O. Bolton, H. Brown, W. G. Octterill, J. Field, R. Harman, G. Lawson, M. Lewin, W. Y. Million (captain), W. Potts, W. Reeves, F. Sheath, H. Williams. College—A. Chapman, H. J. Ootterill (captain), R. Dixon, J. Grigg, G. Helmoro, H. Lee, H. Mathias, W. Mellish, R. Million, J. Newell, O. Newton, T. Rhodes, W. Studholme, T. Tiffen, W. Webb. BINGSLAND v SOUTHERN. A match was played between the Bingsland and Southern Football Clubs on Saturday last, and resulted in a draw, the Bingsland club having several times to touch-down in self-defence. F. Dutton, D. Taylor, and R. Stapleton played well for the former, and J. L. Fleming, A. Lawrence, J. Atkinson, T. Wilson, and A. McFarlane for the latter. SUMNER SCHOOL. A match was played on Saturday at Sumner between the second ten of Cook’s school and twelve of Mr Wiggins’ school. The visitors had the best of it in all the spells, and won by two goals and six touch-downs to nil. It should be stated that two of the visiting team belonged to the first ten, and that generally the boys were older and stronger. For the victors Cuff, Garland (2), Johnson, and Green were particularly conspicuous, and for the Wigginites G. Ross, Mann, Duckworth, Cameron, and Potts. At the close of the game hearty cheers were given for the respective teams. Mr M. H. Smith acted as umpire for both sides.
