[By Tblbgbaph.] [Via Eussell.J The following special cablegrams appear in Australian papers:— LONDON, June 1. The Radicals are signing a petition for the recall of Sir Bartle Frere from the Governorship at the Cape. Mr Gladstone evidently hopes Sir Bartle Frere will resign, and the Cabinent are divided on the question. A telegram in the 11 Standard ” says that the Emeute in Burmah is still progressing. A “ Standard” telegram states that the Arabs of Bagdad demand self-government under the protection of England. Intelligence has been received that Mahomed Jan is collecting an army at Zurmut, and is shortly expected to resume hostile operations. The agitation among the Radicals against the appointment of Sir Bartle Frere as High Commissioner and Governor of the Cape is reviving. The extreme members of the party are now clamoring for Sir Bartle Frere’s recall. Many Jesuits that have been expelled from France have gone to Switzerland for refuge, but are not allowed to remain. The authorities there have warned all members of the Society to leave Swiss territory within a certain period. His Excellency the Marquis of Ripon, the new Viceroy of India, has arrived at Bombay, on bis way to Calcutta, and has bad an Interview with the Governor of the Presidency. Tne rebellion in Burmah is spreading. The rebels are gaining accessions to tbeir ranks. King Theebau’s troops are utterly powerless to check the rebellion. The town of Skuboung has been burnt by the rebels in revenge for the encouragement given to the King’s forces. Several villages have also been destroyed and many inhabitants put to death. June 2. Mr Parnell has given notice of his intention to move in the House of Commons that Sir Bartle Frere be recalled from the Cape. The Right Rev. Monsignor Oapel, D.D., one of the most distinguished of the English Roman Catholic prelates, has been declared a bankrupt. H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh intends to return to Ireland, his primary object being to assist in the work of affording relief to tho distressed people. June 2. An agitation is now going on in Berlin in favor of emigration and colonisation as a means of furnishing an outlet for the surplus population of Germany, more particularly for the purpose of restoring the unexpanding trade and commerce of the empire. The leaders of the movement suggest the island Borneo as an eligible field for German colonisation. M. Henri Rochfort, the well-known Communist, has had a quarrel with M. Coohelin, and it has transpired that the disputants intend to fight a duel. The serious aspect of affairs in Burmah, which promised to result in anindiecriminated slaughter on the part of the rebels and the King’s adherents, has induced the British Government to interfere with the object of preventing bloodshed. The rebels have been communicated with by the military authorities of India, and have been ordered to surrender their arms, and discontinue acts of violence, and in return the rebels are promised tho fullest protection by the British against the vengeance of King Theebau. Communications have also been opened up with King Theebau, who has been fully apprised of the intention of the British.
