The white flag, the signal for a steamer in sight, was a good (leal locked for both on Saturday and yesterday by those who are interested in the London steamer Norfolk’s arrival. On Saturday afternoon the flag went up on the north yardarm, and there being no steamer reported on the telegraph notice board as having left a Northern port for here, not a few supposed it within the probabilities that it was the big boat from home which had got a little to the nor’ard, and was now making the port. The steamer Go-a-head —no less smart in proportion to her sir ■* than her leviathan sister—soon after hove in sight from Wellington, wherenpon the person of that port whose duty it is to wire the departures of steamers from there came in for a blessing. The vessels at the wharves last evening were — No. 1: City of Florence, Edwin Fox, Trevelyan, Orati, Annabella. No 2 : Go-a-head (s.s.). No. 3: Rosa M., Loch Fyne. No. 4: Dnntrnne. No. 5 ; Gareloch, Comet, Assel. No. 6 Clio, T. B. Taylor. Omaha. No. 7 : Ja-per, John Knox, Howard, Saxon. The “Home News” of April 22nd reports the Rangitikei hence as arrived on April 7th, and the Snrnnni April 19th. The s.s. Norfolk left London April 17th, passed Deal next day, arrived at Plymouth on the 19th, and left that day for Canterbury. The steamer would thus be out forty-nine days to-day. The Merope sailed from Loudon for Wellington April 20th. The Trevelyan will be moved into the City of Florence’s berth to discharge the three large locomotives she has in her hold for the Government.
