BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION.

The first delivery of soup took place on Saturday ete»ing at eight o’clock, i when 161 persons were supplied with good substantial soup and bread also if they wanted it. His Worship the Mayor, accompanied by the Mayoress, arrived at the hour named with their party, including several ladies, who each partook of soup in the committee room, and pronounced it excellent, as also did Mr J. W. Morton, whose opinion is of considerable weight. The kitchen, and all appertaining to it, was minutely inspected, every apartment in the building being visited, and all was found to bo in good working order, cleanliness pervading throughewt. The committee may be congratulated on the promptitude it has shown, for scarcely a week has elapsed since the first Donoral meeting called by the Mayor to take the matter into consideration, and now the institution is in full swing. There was a delivery of soup, bread, and baked potatoes this day, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. In addition to the soup and bread on Saturday evening, half-legs of mutton ready boiled were given away. We are informed that a paddock in town of one acre, with plenty of feed and with shed and stable, has been placed at the disposal of the committee. It is understood that the committee are willing to accept the gift of a cow in milk, also some fowls, for which there will be plenty of feed.
