A man named Gellings was charged with forging a cheque purporting to bo signed by J. Abbot, for £65, on the Colonial Bank. Both men were remanded. Mr Oosgrave’s shop was broken into and the cash box rifled of £lO last night. The police are investigating the case. WELLINGTON, June 7. An Unfortunate Passenger. The Railway Commission to-day examined Mr Miller, railway manager, and another witness. The Land Tax. A number of land tax summonses are being issued. WELLINGTON, June 6. The Missing Schooner. The Hinemca returned this morning from a search for the missing schooner Colleen Bawn. She visited several sounds and islands in the vicinity where the vessel was supposed to be lost, but without success. On Steven Island some planking, decking, and a mast were found, but these are thought to bo a portion of the schooner Merlin, wrecked there some months ago. Tho last heard of the Colleen Bawn was on the night of May 6th, when she was spoken by the schooner Old Jack. The captain of the Colleen Bawn then reported that one of his crew was sick, and was advised, as it was likely to be a dirty night, to run to Port Underwood for shelter. Subsequently a S.E. gale sprang up, and it is supposed that the little vessel, which is sixteen years old, foundered. The crew consisted of Captain Pyke and two seamen. OAMARU, June 5. Carriage Accident. Bather a serious accident happened at five o’clock last evening. A number of ladies and gentlemen were out for a drive, and on coming home the horses bolted and npset the carriage. Two ladies were severely injured—one, Mrs Garland, is yet in a precarious condition. Dr. Garland received a alight concussion of the brain, and the others (with the exception of Mrs Garland and Mrs Lintott) escaped uninjured.
