AVON ROAD BOARD.
A meeting was held on May 31st. Present —The chairman, Messrs Moor, Philpott, and Pleaher. Tenders for leasing reserve were received, and that of Mr Spencer for No. 1, Mr Fantham for No 2, and Mr McGolriok for No. 3, were accepted. The reports of the surveyor and foreman of works were read and considered. Mr J. E. Brown saw the Board relative to conference re drainage matters, irhen it was arranged to meet at the Eoad Board office on Wednesday, the 9th, at seven o’clock. Mr Mcßoady and another waited on the Board relative to the naming of a street on Section 6. They wore informed that the Board could not interfere in the matter. The clerk was instructed to write to the engineer, requesting that the sum of £1 per chain be paid for repair of roads, as arranged by the chairman with him The contractor for the shingle contract in Bingsland is to be notified that the penalty for overtime will be enforced. Mr J. J. Patterson to be notified to remove soil deposited on the road, also enclosing copy of clause from Publio Works Act on the subject. Messrs Flddes and Summerton saw the Board relative to road on section 3XI. Messrs. Flesher and Moor, with the surveyor, were appointed to inspect the same and report, A requisition from inhabitants on Hawthorn road was received, requesting the Board to place a culvert across same. The surveyor was instructed to examine and report. Letters were received from Mr John Wilson, rc state of Bligh’s
road and culvert at end of game. 3Trom the engineer to the Drainage Board, stating, the Board would lay down pipes on the side of the Bapanui road, upon tho Avon Board undertalcing to keep them clear, Tho clerk was instructed to reply. Tho contractor for the Fapauui road requested the Board to take his contract off his hands, as he found that he could not complete it in tho specified time. Tho contractor for Horner’s mad saw the Board relative to tho deposit. Tenders wore received for shingle, and tvo were accepted. Accounts to tho amount ot Ullo 10s 2d wore passed and ordered to be paid. Tho Board then adjourned.
