CAPE NEWS.
[bkdtek’s teleqbams.] CAPE TOWN, May 8. Parliament was opened yesterday. The Governor’s opening speech announced that the annexation • ' Qriqualand West would shortly take place, but beyond this there was little of interest or importance in the document. After the reading of the speech the House of Assembly had a short sitting, when several notices of motion were given. The majority of tho Government Bills were set down for second reading on May 17th. A deputation of seven natives had arrived at Port Elizabeth from Basuto, and are on their way to petition Parliament against the enforcement of the Disarmament Act in their country. Sir G. Wolsolsy left here for England last Tuesday. The Empress Eugenie has arrived at Greytown, on the road to Zululand. The Boer delegates from the Transvaal have arrived at Cape Town, and intend stumping tho colony to gam adherents to their claims for tho restoration of tho Transvaal to independence.
