ENTERTAINMENT AT LEESTON.
A vocal and dramatic enter'ainment was held in the Town Hall, on Thursday last, the proceeds of which are to be devoted in aiding Mr Thomas Arthur and family. The hall was well filled. In the unavoidable absence of Dr. Chapman, Mr G. Sandry took the chair, and in a few appropriate words explained to those present the object of the meeting, which commenced with a very amusing farce entitled “ Jhe Photographer,” exceedingly well acted by local amateurs. A musical interlude followed, songs being rendered by Messrs Nelson, Barrel!, Bowden, Lindsay, Twendale, and Douglas. The whole concluded with the burlesque of “ Othello,” which was the success of the evening. Mias Post an presided at the piano, and was of great assistance to the performers. Great praise is due to Messrs Lindsay and Nelson for the trouble they have taken in making th'e entertainment a success. The proceeds, including a donation from the Hon. John Hall of £5 ss, amounted to over £25.
