On Saturday la y t a large sale of properties was held at the sale rooms of Messrs H. Matson AND Co., Cashel street. The attendance was very large. I t was evident that a great interest was felt in the sale of the estate of the late John Griffiths, in the Lincoln road, and this proper y was the fir-'t that came to the hammer. After a spirited competition it was finally sold to Mrs Marton at £2 i per acre. Lot 2, comprising 6 acres 1 rood 29 perches, together with house and improvement* th reon. having 22 chains frontage on the ‘toon hay and Ca hm re road, was passed in at £575. However, the lot will undoubtedly he s Id privat ly. Lot 3. containing 2 acres and 14 perehl s si uato rdf L ncoln road, was sold to Mr tv. M rl tad for £LO. l.ot 4, situate off Lincoln road fell to rR. Rankin, and containing 3 acre- and 3G perches, together with bouse thereon, for the sum of £350. j.henexo on the list was tint Strathmore estate, containing 375 acres, with large and permanent improvements. and being some of the best laud in the Sonih Ashburton district, which fell to the bid of the second rao-tgagee at £IS7S, or £'3 per acre The next that followed was a 111 acre farm at Wakanni near Ashburton, which, failing to find a buyer, was passed in at £4 10s per acre, 'ho fxt was 1 aero of land, to gether with house thereon, situate in Faulkner’s road, Fend-.ltown road, which, failing to r act the owner’s price, was passed in at £3lO Several other smaller properties that followed were unfortunate also in not finding purchasers.
