THE ROYAL COMMISSIONS.
[By Telegraph.]
[from our own correspondent.] WELLINGTON, May 29.
The Local Industries Commission sat this afternoon to consider some correspondence and papers. A rough draft of their report has been drawn up, and it will bo fully considered and finally dealt with at a meeting to be held on Monday next. The report will bo presented to Parliament about the end of next week.
It seems very doubtful when the Civil Service Commission will be able to report, seeing that they have applied through the Government to the Imperial Government for informations as to the Imperial Civil Service, and as that application was only made in March, considerable time must elapse before the information is received. It is thought by some that Ministers will suggest the postponement till next session of the main queslion of civil service reform and reorganisaiion, contenting themselves this year with a large retrenchment in the expenditure, probably to the extent of fully £IOO.OOO. It is understood that the Government are anxious to have the report of theßalway Commission before the Public Works statement is brought down, ao the nature of the latter necessarily must materially depend on the former, but it is not known yet how soon the report is likely to bo available.
