CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, May 31. [BeforeQ L Modish E-q., R M.] Drunk and Disorderly.—For thisoffence Henry Elliott was fined 10*; Catherine McDonald, 40*; Alexander L-’ckie, 20s.j Margaret Irving, 10j ; and eight tirat offenders, 5s each. I/ARCBNY. —Parker West wa? charjeea with stealing a pipe, value 2*, from G . W. Price on Thursday nv-rnirg last. Ac'u«ed had been remanded on Saturday. G. W. Price proved haying lost the pipe while in company with accused, and a witness deposed to accused offering the pipe to him for sale. His Worship considered, as the parties had been drinking together, there was a doubt, as to the theft. Case dismissed. S' Neglected Child —Wm. B-.lph, a small boy about eleven years old, who bad been found by the police in Sydenham, unable to give any account cf himse f, was remanded till June 2nd for fur’her inquiries. Breach of City By-Laws. John Barrett, (for neglecting to keep a sufficient light on work* in progress at the South town belt on the 13th and 17(h inats., was fined 20s and costs in the second case ; the first was dismissed. P ter Hyndman, for similar offences in Lichfield street, fined 10s and costs. Cattle at Large — D. Maydwell, A. Wright, John Ryan. John Lee, and Fredk. Allen, were fin. d 5s and costs for this offence. A similar charge against G. W. Dowson was dismissed. Evading Payment of Railway Fare. — Wm. Spring was charged with travelling between Rangiora and Addington without having previously paid his fare, and with using abusive language to the ticket collector at the latter place. Mr Salter appeared for the defence. The abusive language was admitted. After hearing evidence the Magistrate said it was possible accused really had paid his fare and given up his ticket at. an improper time, and the first, charge would be dismissed. For the bad language accused would be fined 40a. Smoking in a Railway Carriage.--• Wm. Smith was brought up for this offence, but sufficient evidence against him not being forthcoming, the case was dismissed. Overcrowding a Licensed Vehicle.— James Perkiss, for carrying three pe-sons at one time in bis hansom cab, was fined 10s. Unregistered Dog. —P, Johnson, for having an unregistered dog in his possession, was fined 20s. Selling Liquor during Prohibited Hours. — O. L ui-son, licensee cf the Terminus Hotel, for this offence was fined £5 and costs. Obscene Language. —Mary Ann Hart pleaded guilty to ibis charge and was Sued 20s and one witness’ expenses, 4». Cruelty to a Horse. —Albert Truscott, for driving a horse having sore shoulders, applied for a remand till next Monday, which was granted.
