SPORTING.

LITTLE RIVER RACES. The above races were run on the Queen’i birthday. The weather was dry, but very cold. A largo number of persons from the neighboring bays took advantage of the holiday to witness them. Some of the races were very good, and an enjoyable day was spent. The following are the results : Maiden Huedle Race, of 10 aova. Distance, 1$ miles. Mr Robinson's Kaiapoi 1 Mr Green’s Jack 2 -Pineapple, Lochness, Tout, Tarewa also ran. Kaiapoi won from the beginning. Jack’s rider entered a protest against him, which was subsequently withdrawn. Lochness fell, and throw his rider somewhat heavily. Jack was a good second. Handicap Hurdle Race, of 15 sova ; distance about two miles. Mr Angus’ Rubin Hood ... w.o. Tarewa and Tyro were entered but did not ran. Publicans’ Purse, of 10 sovs ; distance, IV miles. Mr Lyall’s Ti .okowarn 1 Mr Shosnan’s Tarewa 2 Malvina, Minnie, Lochness, Biuo Ribbon also ran. Titokowaru won after a good race between him and Tarewa. Lochness led for part of t*>e distance, but ran off the course. Wairkwa Handicap, of 20 sovs ; distance, two miles. Mr Lunn’s Marie Antoinette ... 1 Mr Shadbolt’s Eclat 2 Johnny, Symphony, and Orange Peel also started. Robin Hood, Tarewa, and Titokowaru were scratched. Ibis was the race of the meeting. Mario Antoinette and Eilat ran a dead heat. Marie Antoinette eventually was declared winner in the second heat by about a head. Hack Race. Eleven horses were entered, but Mr Crocker’s Nipper proved too good for the rest and won easily. The Consolation Race was postponed till next morning, when it took place as follows : Consolation Race, of 5 sovs ; distance, IV miles. Mr Mcdanaland’ Orange Peel ... 1 Four started. A Handicap trotting match took place on the same day, Mr Lunn’s Tyro being the winner, having sixty yards start: — Handicap Trotting Match—Three miles. Mr Lutm’s Tyro (60 yards start) ... 1 Several other horses started.
