MANDEVILLE AND RANGIORA DRAINAGE.
The members of the commission appointed to report on this drainage, met at the Road Board Office, Rangiora, on Thursday. Present—Mr Napier Bell (obairmai Messrs J. H. Lowe and J. Marshman. After inspecting the maps of the district showing the lines of present drainage and depressior a in the land which might have formed former water-courses by which the overflow of the Oust river had found a way to the Waimakariri, the Chairman said that the commission would bo glad to hear any statements made by parties affected. Messrs J. Guild, R. Chapman, P. O. Threlkeld, W. Milligan, R. Evans and W. Kelohermade statements pointing out objections to the drainage system as carried out by the Board. Messrs J. 0. Boys, H. Blackett, A. Parsons, J. Doak, and M. Duncan made statements to the effect that the existing system of drainage was as efficient as possible. They objected to the overflow of the Cost being turned into low lands where it would cause damage to farms and claims to arise against the general public for compensation. The commissioners intimated their intention to have lovtls taken of the country, and will sit at a future day in Christchurch.
