[eetjtee’s TELEGEAM3.] LONDON, May 20. The Conservative PartyA meeting of the Conservative Party was held to-day, at which Earl Beaeonsfield made a speech. His Lordship referred to the result of the elections, and said he could only attribute the defeat of the Conservative to the desire felt by the electors for a change of Ministry. He stated that be would retain the leadership of his party, and advocated a dignified Opposition to the Liberals, and the formation of a proper local Conservative organisation throughout the country. Earl Carnarvon, who resigned bis position in the late Ministry in 1878, in consequence of its Eastern policy, was present at the meeting. May 19. The Markets. Three per cent. Consols, 99-J; Adelaide wheat, per 4961b5., ex warehouse, 53s 6d; flour, per 280 lbs., ex warehouse, 38s; pig iron, 51s; leather, At the wool sales to-day, 10,200 hales were offered, making a total of 235,700 bales catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale was dull. The Mails. The John Elder has arrived with the mails, via Brindisi, which were delivered in London to-day. PARIS, May 20. The Melbourne Exhibition. The war ship Finistorre has sailed for Melbourne with the French exhibits for the forthcoming exhibition. CHILI, May 19. Shipping. The ship Antipodes has put into Valparaiso in a leaky state, and will have to discharge her cargo. Repairs are being effected.
