CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
At the meeting of the Presbytery of Christohurch, held on Thursday, 13th May, there were present The Bev. Messrs Horner (Moderator), Hill, McOallum, Beattie, Oroe, Cairns, Burnett, Blake, Eraser, MoKee, MoGregor, and Mr Wilson elder. The meeting was duly constituted and the minutes eonfirmed.
The clerk was instructed to reply to the Kev. Mr Maoky, the General Assembly's convener of Board of Examination, that there were two theological students within the bounds. Mr Monro elected to come under the new regime of the Board of Examination. Mr Fraser, moderator of Waikari, intimated that Mr Taylor had appointed a provisional committee, and that £IOO waa promised towards his salary. It was agreed that Mr Hill apply for a grant in aid of the district from the Ohuroh extension committee. Mr Eraser had arranged to preaoh there on May 30th, and to endeavor to make arrangements for church site and regular services. With regard to the Kaiapoi case, the Bev. Messrs Horner and Hill reported that they had met with the congregation and read the decision of Presbytery. As the Presbytery at the last meeting decided the case, and found nothing against MrMcGregor, they now declined hearing anything more about it, and instructed the requisitionists to hand over the books, vouohers, and moneys in their possession to their successors in offioe. Mr McKee requested that the four elders that had joined his congregation at the North town belt might be appointed an interim session. Bequest granted. Mr Cairns requested likewise that the two elders who had joined his congregation at Sydenham might be appointed an interim session. Bequest granted. Mr Burnett asked for an interim session to he appointed to bis oharge at Halkett. Messrs Black and Cruie were appointed. Mr Beattie presented the design of a new church at Wheatstone for approval. Mr Eraser proposed that the windows be lance shaped, and that a vestry be added, and a belfry if possible. Mr Oairnß intimated that they were about to build at Sydenham, but he had not the plan with him, as he did not know their custom, or the plan would have been pre sented. Liberty was granted to build. Mr Hill intimated that a new manse was to be built at Lyttelton. The design was not finished. Liberty was granted to go on with the building. On the motion of Mr Oree, the Presbytery adjourned until 245 p.m. The Moderator pronounced the Benediction. At 245 p.m. the Presbytery met, and the Moderator constituted with prayer. On the motion of Mr Beattie, it was reBolved that the Bev. Messrs Oairnß, MoKee, Elmslie, and Eraser, the latter convener, be appointed a committee to consider the necessity of a Preßbyterial fund to meet members' travelling expenses. Enquiries were made anent payment of stipend of the members present, and it was resolved that enquiries be made again at next meeting. The Bevs. Messrs Hill and Eraser were appointed to make a congregational visit at Papanui. It was resolved to record a vote of thanks to the Bevs. Messrs Hill'and Fraser, the local Ohurch extension committee, for the efficient manner in which they had carried out their instructions in planting the suburban chargeß of Sydenham and North Town belt. Mr Blake introduced the subjects that belonged to the conference of religion: —l, Sabbath Observance ; 2, religious literature ; 3, Evangelistic services; 4, interest in missions.
After several members had expressed their satisfaction and profit from the conference, it was resolved to adjourn the conference for fuller consideration of the topics to next meeting. The meeting was closed with the benediction.
