Panorama op Australia. —To-night will be given the last performance of this company, so that all who wish to seea good entertainment should go. To-morrow the company will appear in Lyttelton. Thb Premier. —The Hon. John Hall was a passenger from Wellington by the steamer Wakatipu, which arrived this forenoon. He is to address his constituency at Leeston tomorrow night.
A.O IT.— Court Thistle of the Forest held their usual fortnightly meeting at Sfc. Saviour’s schoolroom, Going’s road, Sydenham, last night. There was a fair attendance of members. The O.E. read the quarterly report from the High, .Court, One new new member was initiated. It was resolved to advertise the scale of initiation fees. After tho usual routine business, the Court closed in due form. Resident Maqisteatb’3 Couet. Two children were brought up this morning charged with stealing confectionery from a shop. They were, on account of their youth and on their fathers’ promising to administer suitable correction, dismissed with a severe reprimand. Frank Eomer, for horse stealing, was committed for trial at the next sessions of the Supreme Court. Henry Davies, whose name will be remembered in connection with the case Duncan v Henderson, after a lengthy examination was also committed for trial for perjury in giving his evidence on that Msasion. Lyttelton Magistbatb’s Cotjet. —Mr Joseph fieswiok, RM., presided this morning at this Court, and disposed of the following business George Kayley, for being drunk and disorderly at Governor’s Bay on Tuesday night, and for breaking a pane of glass in the Whitecliffs Hotel there, was fined 20s and the damage to the property. A civil case, Merson v.Dear, claim £7 15s sd, Mr Nalder tor plaintiff was decided in favour of the plaintiff, ha to pev costs and counsel's fee. Juvenile Oddfellows. — A meeting was held at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Bangiora, on Saturday night, to receive members for the juvenile branch of the 1.0.0.F.,M,TJ. The attendance was not so large as anticipated, but it may be stated the lodge will bo opened as soon as a sufficient number of candidates come forward. Sale of Pbiviebgks, —The sale of the booths, &0., in connection with the forth coming steeplechase meeting took place at Cookson’s Commercial Hotel yesterday. Mr James Campbell officiated as auctioneer. The following prices were realised : —New stand, £3l, Mr Hurst; No. 1 publican’s, £l6, Mr Stenirg ; confectioner’s booth and sports, £l2, Mr Burmeister; horse yards, £1 ss, Mr Butcher. Bazaae, Eangioba. —On Whit Tuesday a bazaar was held in St. John’s Sunday-school, in aid of the building fund of the church and belfry. The stalls were presided at by Mesdames Dudley, Fuller, Moorhouse, and Misses Blackett, Leech, Fuller, Thomson, Torlesse, Luxton, and Dudley. There was a good display of fancy and miscellaneous articles, for which fair prices were realised, and a good sum netted in aid of the object to be benefited Impbotembht Association. —The Wesleyan Mutual Improvement Association held their usual weekly meeting at their rooms on Monday evening, tho Eev, Mr Eeid in the chair. The business of the meeting was an essay by Mr Black, subject "Man.” The essayist dealt with the subject in a very masterly manner, and received a special vote of thanks at the conclusion. Camilla Übbo. —This talented lady and her company arrived yesterday by the Te Anau, and the first concert of the series takes place this evening. The programme is a most inviting one. Madame Urso will play the celebrated “ Witches’ Dance,” and also an arrangement of Eussian airs. The other members of tho company will contribute several items, and altogether tho concert should dra w a large attendance. Obituaey. —lt is with regret that we announce the untimely death of Selwyn, the fifth son of Mr J. E. Fitz Gerald, which took place at Wellington on Sunday last. Although for many years Mr and Mrs Fitz Gerald have ceased to reside in Canterbury, they are still held in affectionate regard by a wide circle of friends, in whose minds they are intimately associated with tho political and social history of this province during tho first seventeen or eighteen years of its existence. The news of their sad bereavement will be received with sorrow in every portion of the provincial district. Thbatbb Eotal. —The bill of the preceding evening was repeated last night at the Theatre Eoyal. To-night “ She Stoops to Conquer ” will be produced. Hobticulxubal Society. —A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Horticultural Society was held last evening in the rooms of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Present—Messrs G. A. Beade (in tho chair), D. Nairn, H. Crooks, J. Gray, and the secretary. It war decided to hold tho annual general meeting on Thursday, May 27th, and Messrs A. Duncan, G. A. Eeade, and the secretary were appointed a committee to draw up the annual report. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting doted. Gbain Tbafpio. —On Saturday last the grain traffic on the Christchurch section was represented as follows :—On hand, 15,170 bags ; forwarded, 11,586. Monday traffic— On hand, 16,510 ; and forwarded, 8233 bags. Masonic. —The regular meeting of the Canterbury Kilwinning Lodge, 585, S.C., of Lyttelton, is postponed fram the 20th to the 26th inst. Election op City Councillor. — The election to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Wyatt, will be held in the Orange Hall, Worcester street, on Thursday, June 10th. Nominations are receivable at the City Council office up till noon on the 29 th inst.
