MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHBISTOHTJEOH. Saturday, May 8. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., E.M.j Deunk and Disord ebi/y. —Two drunkards, male and female, old habitues of the Court, were each fined 20s. Alexander Leckie, who was suffering from the effects of drink, was remanded for medical treatment to Lyttelton until tho 15th inst. Obscene Language —James H. Burrows was fined 40s for drunkenness, making use of obscene language, and resisting Detective O'Connor in tho execution of his duty. Yageancy. —H. E. Allen was brought up charged with vagrancy. He had previously been remanded, as a lunatic from the effects of drink, for medical treatment, and was now recovered. Detective O’Connor and Bobert Wallace, landlord of the Criterion Hotel, gave evidence that tho accused had been seen frequently soliciting money and drink while in a state of intoxication. His Worship said he would not take the charge of vagrancy, as when the accused wae sober he earned a living by his calling. A conviction would be entered up for being drunk, and he would be discharged. It was no use inflicting a fine, as probably he had not a sixpence to pay it with, but if he was not very careful for the future he would, on re-appoaring for the same offence, bo sentenced to hard labour.

Transfer of License.—The license of the Britannia Hotel was transferred from D. McGuinness to John Barlow.
