NORTH CANTERBURY RACE COMMITTEE.
This committee met on Tuesday evening at eight o’clock, at Wilson’s Club Hotel, Kangiora; Captain Parsons in the chair. The treasurer read the financial report, which showed a surplus of £55, aPer defraying all expenses in connection with the late meeting. The motion standing in Mr Nioholl’s name, to alter the races to a spring meeting, was then brought on for discussion. Mr Nicholls proposed and Mr Moody seconded, that the future meetings be held on St. Andrews’ Day (November 30th). Mr Roberts moved and Mr Mulcock seconded, that the old Bangiora holiday, New Year’s Day, he selected as the day. It was urged against the Ist January that the Caledonian Society had already secured that day for their sports. Mr Pulton explained that last year New Tear’s Day was found not to be quite suitable for the Caledonian gathering, as a number of the members were engaged on the stations shearing, and were unable to attend the sports. He also thought it probable that next year they would most likely select St. Andrew’s Day, as shearing will not have commenced. The amendment was carried, one voting for the original motion. A letter was read from the Ellesmere race committee respecting the disqualification of Pippin, and it was agreed to consider the matter before next meeting. Messrs Moorhouse, Edwards and Ontten, solicitors, Wellington, wrote, stating that Mr Franck was prepared to receive a nominal penalty for allowing the totalisitor to be worked on the courso at the late meeting on their engaging for the future to accept the terms he previously offered. It was agreed that no notice be akenof the communication. Votes of thanks were accorded to the chair and the meeting terminated.
