MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at the C hief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under: — THURSDAY, MAY 6.
For the United Kingdom, via Brindisi (for specially addressed correspondence only), Continent of Europe, Point de Qalle, India, the East, Aden, Mauritius, Natal, Cape of Good Hope, Suez, the Mediterranean Ports, Australian Colonies, &0., per express train, to connect with s.s. Arawata at the Bluff, as follows :
Ordinary letters, at 7 a.m. Books and newspapers, at 6 a.m. Registered letters, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May sth. Money orders, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May sth.
Late fee letters may be posted in the travelling post-office van attached to the express train, on Thursday, May 6th. This mail will be due in London on June 26th.
Note. —The Brindisi rate of postage for the United Kingdom is 8d per half-ounce. For Gape Town, per Sunbeam (for specially addressed correspondence only), at 12.30 p.m. ; late fee letters, 12.45 p.m. ; guard’s van, 1.25 p.m. train. For Otago, per Wanaka, at 1.50 p.m.; late fee letters, 2.10 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. FRIDAY, MAT 7. For Northern Ports of New Zealand and Australian colonies, via Sydney, per Rotomahana, at 3.15 p.m. ; late fee letters, 3.25 p m.; guard’s van, 3.55'-p.m, train. The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will be closed at Christchurch on May 22nd, and will be due in London on July 6th. Notice.—The Post Office at the Weka Pass Railway Works has been re opened at Mr Woodhouse’s store.
The Post Offices at Christchurch and Lyttelton will be open every Saturday night, from half-past six until a quarter to eight o’clock, for the purpose of receiving Savings’ Bank deposits only. SYDNEY J. DICE, Chief Postmaster.
