ASHBURTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At a meeting of the Council, held last Monday night, the Mayor stated that over £SOO was due to the Council from the Longbeaoh and Wakanui Road Boards, as its share of the impounded land fund. The marager of the Bank had been very loth to pay their cheques, but he (the Mayor) had promised that the overdraft would be settled by the end of next month. Some formal business having been transacted, Cr. Bullock drew attention to the necessity of planting some of the reserves and the town belts, and also to defective drainage in Burnett, Tancred, and Peters streets. The matter was ordered to be submitted to the chairman of the County Council. On the motion of Cr. St. Hill, a resolution to lay on gas in the Council Chamber was carried. Tho Mayor stated that £135 was still due ferrates, and it was agreed to instruct tho clerk to act on the resolution authorising him to sue for rates. Tho burgess list having been signed, the Council adjourned.
