The charge of attempting to burn down the Government Buildings is now proceeding. WELLINGTON, May 5. At the Supreme Court the case of Fake v. Corporation is being heard. The action claims £2OOO damages for injuries sustained through the alleged negligence of defendants. An Unpleasant Voyage. The passengers per ship Caroline, which arrived from London a few days ago, state that the vessel was on fire three times during the voyage. The outbreak each time was the steerage, and at night. On one occasion three passengers’ berths and partitions were burnt before the conflagarati on was stopped. Since the vessel’s arrival in port visitors have been rigidly refused admittance on board. DUNEDIN, May 5. Railway Accident. The goods train which left Palmerston for Dunedin at 9 o’clock last evening, ran off the line at Pelichot Bay siding early this morning. The leading engine went over the eidwc into the water, falling on its aide and[pusml| some trucks along with it. At high tide they will be partially covered. The four engine drivers and firemen fortunately escaped with slight bruises only, having jump' d off just prior to the engine leaving the rails. He will proceed from there to Captain Goring’* camp, and thence on to Hawera, where he will be joined by Mr Berry, his private secretary, who leaves here to-morrow morning by train. Mr Bryce will stay a few days in Wanganui and proceed to Wellington on Monday next. WELLINGTON, May 4. Progress of SettlementAt a meeting relative to settlement on the land, it was resolved to interview the Government with a view to obtain a settlement ©f a small number of men on the Palma Bosh block, near Napier, and the expenditure of the £SOO voted last session for roads on that block. It was also decided to ask the Government for the use of the Immigration Barracks at Napier for the families of men taking up land. ■Why? The police have a strong suspicion that the reported case of drowning from the wharf yesterday is a fabrication. The Governor. His Excellency leaves for Napier tomorrow. GREY MOUTH, May 4.
