FOOTBALL.
The match played on Saturday lost by the Eastern Club was a picked fifteen (yellows) v the club (blues), which resulted in favor of the former. The yellows winning the fcnsß elected to take the north goal. Hawkes started the game with a good kick off for the blues, but the ball was quickly returned, and for some time remained in the centre of the ground. After some good scrimmaging the blues compelled the yellows to force down several times in self defence. On the ball being brought out the yellows followed up well and returned the compliment by forcing the blues. The last spell was very tightly contested, fast play being the order of the day. No advantage win gained by either side until within a few minutes of time, when Parker made a smart run to within a few yards of the blues' goal line, and being collared passed the ball back to Joynt, who succeeded in getting a try, which was converted into a goal by Kinvig. This was the only score obtained on either side. On time being called the game was left in favour of the yellows by one goal to nil. —A game was played at Kangiora between members of the Northern Football Club on Saturday. Afterwards a meeting was held to elect delegates to attend the Bugby Union Association meeting on Saturday evening. Messrs Greenwood of Teviotdale, and J. Hossack, were elected as representatives of the club. It was explained that the object of the union was to arrange for matches, and select a team to represent the Canterbury district.
