OHRISTCHTJRCH. Fbiday, Apbix 30. TBofore G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.I Dbttnk and DisobdbbijT. Two first offenders were fined os each, and a woman who had yesterday been before the Bench, was mulcted in the sum of 20s.
Indecent Assault. A young man, named William Smith, sixteen years of age, described as a runaway sailor, was charged with attempting to indecently assault a young girl of tender years, at Opawa, on the 29th inßt. The accused admitted the offence. Mr Mellish told him he was half disposed to commit him for trial, in order to give him an opportunity of experiencing the retribution of a good flogging. As it was that he had pleaded guilty, he would deal with the case summarily, and sentence him to one month's imprisonment with hard labor, to bo kept separate from the other prisoners.
